FireWall Software:  Firewalls keep hackers and other unidentified programs from sending or receiving unauthorized information from your computer.  Once a hacker is able to access your pc, he/she can install additional software to monitor you or collect personal information, make changes to your files and data, take control of your computer or access any additional information that is stored on your computer. 

If unidentified programs are trying to access the Internet to send your information to another computer without your permission, such as log-in information, bank information, etc.,  the firewall will notify you and will make sure is does not leave your computer.
